Couple's Corner

A New Perspective

So there I was. Nice weather, the sun was shining, and a warm day with clear blue sky. I was arriving home from another tense day at work. There was only one remaining door between me and rest.

I inhaled a breath of air as I opened the last remaining barrier between the outside world and enter our small blessing of a home.

As I step in, I see my wife sitting on the couch near the window where daylight is surrounding her

I begin to exhale my breath of relief, and I hear simultaneous, almost helium-like voices of: “Grampa’s home, now we can go outside”!

The Holy Spirit saw it appropriate to finish my exhalation by saying: “Hi guys, let me get changed”.

I went out with our two grandchildren, ages 3 and 4 years. Debbie now getting her breath of relief for a short while.

We live on a canal which leads out to a nice inland lake. I walked with Kaden and Kara to the canal to look at all the fish and other life forms in and around us. I am pointing these out to them and talking to the kids about the fish swimming all around.

I looked down expecting these children to be sharing my enthusiasm and pleasure in seeing these creatures in the water.

When I looked down, I felt oddness. They were looking all around, and just as in a cartoon, both of them looking in different directions.

I was surprised by their behavior, and in a brief moment, I understood why.

I slipped off my polarized sunglasses. I saw the environment as they did. They, and now we, are all squinting and searching to find what is being looked for.

Retrouvaille provides the tools, in this case like my sunglasses. My eyes are protected from life’s blinding and distorting glare. I am able to see clearly where others may be looking, but unlike me, they are caught up in the blindness of life.

The Retrouvaille Weekend, POST Sessions, C.O.R.E. (Continuing Our Retrouvaille Experience) and other opportunities provide the sunglasses and prescription we need to see clear ly on our path in marriage. The blind can see, and deaf can hear.

Retrouvaille will not put the glasses on anyone. Retrouvaille makes them available for God’s design in marriage. Each person must decide to grab onto the glasses, and put them on themselves. Then Retrouvaille assists with adjustments and continuing education along the way.
